How can I show 'innovation' in my entry?
‘Innovation’ has become a fundamental concept in modern working life – it's something so many organisations are seeking as they try to meet the demands of complex and competitive business environments.
It's one of the reasons that innovation is among the guiding criteria for the STAR Awards.
Innovation may feel out of reach for some in that it may call to mind big, bold ventures or cutting-edge technology.
But innovation doesn't necessarily need to be technology driven. Consider your strategy and process, too. Innovation can be about making changes to established practices or processes, and introducing new methods or ideas.
What's more, innovation can thrive in a constrained environment, with teams and leaders getting creative in finding ways to do things differently.
So, think broadly. How have you challenged the status quo or made adjustments while striving to make things better?
Ask yourself the following questions or talk them through with your team to uncover examples of innovation:
Strategy:
Did you have to pivot quickly and create a new plan based on a situation you hadn't experienced before?
Did you have to create a strategy that did more with less than before?
Did you have to create a strategy that was more adaptable given the evolving nature of the economy?
Process:
Did you have to find ways to reduce spend while maintaining the same output?
Did you have a hiring freeze, creating time to focus on those process-driven innovations you don't usually have time for?
Did you find ways to streamline a current process resulting in time efficiencies?
Did you evolve your processes to account for higher volumes of candidates?
Technology:
Have you implemented a new technology solution to solve a challenge?
Have you improved your use of the technologies you currently have to achieve better outcomes?
Have you led the charge in creating something custom for your organisation that solves your unique problems?
This isn't an exhaustive list, just some suggestions and ideas that we hope will help you to prepare a great entry.
Innovation is one key part of driving excellence in talent acquisition and hiring. It can take many forms, and might not be bold or flashy. It might come down to delivering results amid constraints or making small but meaningful changes. So, find your innovative moment or achievement and share it in your submission.
While you're preparing your submission, be sure to check out the STAR Awards Categories and criteria page for more information that may help you.
